World Environment Day 2023

The theme for World Environment Day on 5 June 2023 was focused on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution.

More than 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year, half of which is designed to be used only once and less than 10 per cent is recycled – making it one of the gravest threats to the planet.

Spearheaded by Justin Widdowson (the proud business owner of the family run business) the TotalWM team embarked on a big clear up of plastic waste at Epping Forest.

TotalWM specialises in the recycling and recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, general waste and end of life vehicles (ELVs) – and are extremely passionate about ensuring that each of the waste streams (metal, plastic or any other waste matter) that we handle on behalf of our clients  is managed in accordance with the upper and more sustainable end of the waste hierarchy. Disposal to landfill is never (and never has been) an option for us!

As well as this – In 2021 we made a strategic high-level decision to limit the impact of our activities on the environment and work towards the very challenging aim of reaching net zero, fifteen years in advance of the government target.

TotalWM have made many exciting achievements in our quest for this goal so far – and our passion for environmental and climate stewardship means there will be some very exciting things to come too – watch this space!
